1. INTRODUCTION

The study of mathematics is a fundamental part of a balanced education. It encourages a powerful universal language, analytical reasoning and the ability to solve problems that contribute to the development of logical, abstract and critical thinking. Mathematics helps understanding the world from a different perspective, gives you tools for decision making and interpretation of everyday phenomena. They also promote the analysis and the search for patterns and relationships, necessary skills for success. Therefore, Mathematics must be accessible and studied by all students.

  1. GENERAL OBJECTIVE

At the end of the semester the student must be able to:

  • Enjoy and build curiosity for mathematics and begin to appreciate the elegance and possibilities that it offers.

  • Apply different forms to express quantities depending on the context.

  • Transfer his knowledge to a real life context to solve everyday situations and different subjects.

  • Interpret mathematical language, operations, logical reasoning and methods to solve problems.

  • Master processes that can lead to determining patterns applied to problem solving.

  • Develop critical thinking skills to recognize mistakes in both  his own and others' work.

  • To find creative solutions to difficult problems.

  • Develop the desire of going deep in the mathematical concepts to understand and solve advanced mathematical problems.
